This is a wonderful movie with incredible and innovative CG animation throughout but for some reason it lacks the coherence
and charm of its director's earlier 2D effort "Iron Giant" and also of Pixar's earlier classics, the "Toy Story"
films and "Finding Nemo". Although the movie puts its retired superhero family in serious physical jeopardy, their
psychic peril seems mild -- just being a family makes their world benign from the start, despite their problems. But Brad
Bird is a visionary animation writer and director, trying to take the medium to new places thematically, and anything he does
is worth seeing. His voicing of Edna, superhero costume designer, is brilliant, as is Holly Hunter's voicing of superhero
mom Helen. Hunter manages to make Helen genuinely sexy -- no mean feat for a character created on a computer.
